Antioch Dunes NWR
Created to protect the Lange's Metalmark Butterfly, the Contra Costa Wallflower, and the Antioch Dunes Evening-Primrose, Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge is not normally open to the public. Access is via free guided tours every 2nd Saturday of the month. Check out https://www.fws.gov/refuge/antioch-dunes if you'd like to visit.

Sands
The sand that is being used to "restore" the dunes is not the fine, wind-blown sand of the original dunes. It is a coarser sediment washed down the San Jaoquin River from the Sierra Nevada.
